South Walsham Canoe Hire & Kayak Hire

South Walsham Broad
The sky is the limit

A beautiful broad which is split into two, the inner and outer broads.

The inner is in the grounds of Fairhaven gardens (former home of Lord Fairhaven) and in theory is still a private broad however motorboats can still access the broad although there is no moorings.

The outer Broad is classified as the "public broad" and along one shoreline has an interesting mix of luxury homes and holiday properties as well as several boatyards and moorings.

The 'outer' broad on the other hand is open to all craft and is connected to the River Bure by the mile long Fleet Dyke. Motor & sailing boats use the outer broad extensively and at certain times of the year sailing regattas are held on the broad, which although very beautiful to watch (traditional Norfolk Broads sailing yachts) can be a bit daunting to canoeists!!!

From here it is possible to paddle to St Benets Abbey, the only monastery in England that wasn't dissolved during the dissolution of the monasteries during Henry VIII reign, and a little further afield Ranworth Broad where you can visit the Norfolk Wildlife Trust's visitor centre and Ranworth Church. Climb the tower for the the best view over the broads!

The Dyke leading out of the broad is relatively narrow and during the summer can be very busy with cruiser traffic.

Please Be Aware

South Walsham Broad is notorious for suffering with Blue Green Algae, particularly in warmer periods. This can cause sickness in humans and potentially death in dogs. Due to this there will be times when we are unable to offer Canoe Hire/Trails from this venue.

Tue 16-Apr-2024 : There is no availability for South Walsham Hires today (Tue 16-Apr-2024). We have plenty of Canoes, Kayaks & SUP’s for hire at our other locations throughout the Broads so please check these out using the links above, or alternatively select a date from the calendar below.
